Top Gear Festival Comes to Durban

The thrilling and jaw-dropping Top Gear Festival 2012 is all set to make its debut in Durban. The mind-blowing event will take place at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on June 16 and 17.

Partnered with the Province of KwaZulu-Natal and the City of Durban, the remarkable event is coming up with the first-ever stadium show. The festival will be hosted by the complete Top Gear team-Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig.

The 2012 event seems to touch new heights as claimed in the event’s website which reveals that the event will thrill the audience with “ FMX bikes, donutting & flaming rally cars, exhilarating, hair-raising stunt manoeuvres by the Top Gear Live Stunt Driving Team and nonsensical challenges synonymous with Top Gear.”

The festival is seen to boost business at its venues, especially tour and travel sector including domestic and international air travel; even the hotels do brisk business around this time of the year. Having entertained over 1 million people worldwide, it will be no wonder if tickets on cheap flights to South Africa – particularly international flights connecting Durban airport - will be difficult to come by as the event draws closer.

And those who booked their June holidays in the rainbow nation just few days before the announcement of the event’s venue came in (a week back) shouldn’t regret. Go for a modification in the holiday; a little amendment fee would only make your cheap flights to South Africa little less cheap! Not many Top Gear fans would disagree that the event would realise more than the worth of your additional cost.

Tickets' for the event cost between R250 to R995 for a Platinum Package and are on sale now.

Indian Hotels Room Rates Increase By 2 Percent

Hotel.com, in its recently released Hotel Price Index (HPI) report, revealed a 2% tariff hike for Indian hotels. The report indicated that the hotel room rates globally have risen by 4%.

The latest HPI report features 27 travel destinations including UK, USA, UAE, Canada, Singapore, Greece, Italy, Japan, Australia and others. Amongst these, India ranked the least priced country with an average room rate of 53.52 GBP per night. Switzerland is the most expensive country with a 19% rise in room rates, with an average room rate of 132.92 GBP per night. UK is next with a rise of 7% to 113.53 GBP.

India experienced a modest rise in hotel tariffs in the later half of 2011, compared to 2010. A 2 percent hike is only a marginal one and is not likely to deter those who have been planning to book tickets on cheap flights to India.

The report revealed that hotel tariffs in Kerala are highest with an average of 93.47 GBP per night. Mumbai and New Delhi were next at 82.81 GBP and 74.89 GBP, after respective rises of 3% and 9%. Kolkata ranked fourth with average room rates of 67.32 GBP per night.

Kerala tourism has in the recent past grown leaps and bounds and the state lures droves of tourists, with a significant chunk of tourists from Britain. Mumbai and Delhi have remained the most popular gateways for those taking flights to India.

While the hotel tariffs in India increased, Germany, South Africa, Canada and Japan experienced significant fall in the hotel tariffs. Holiday makers hunting for cheap flights and airline deals for leisurely breaks to these destinations are surely a happy lot as they don’t need to spend a bomb on lodgings.
