Thailand zoo gets extended panda cub loan

Animal lovers taking flights to Thailand this year may be glad to hear that a giant panda cub, which is on loan from a Chinese zoo, will remain in the country for two more years.

Lin Ping, who is one year and 10 months old, was due to move to China in May on her second birthday, but she will be allowed to stay in Thailand until 2013, the AFP reported.

The youngster was the first giant panda cub to be born in Thailand after a successful artificial insemination project at Chiang Mai Zoo.

Lin Ping is a national star in Thailand, with a 24-hour Panda Channel allowing nature enthusiasts to follow her every move.

Australian resort welcomes F1 champ Alonso

On the back of his recent appearance in the Melbourne Grand Prix, two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso paid a visit to luxury Australian resort Qualia.

The Spaniard may have reached speeds of over 190 mph on the track, but at the peaceful Great Barrier Reef resort, he was content to amble around at just 12mph in an electric buggy.

Alonso also managed to fit in a few rounds of golf at the nearby Hamilton Island Golf Club before heading off to Kuala Lumpur for the next stage of the Formula 1 world championship.

Cyndi Lauper's tour arrives in Sydney

Fans of 80s music taking flights to Australia may be excited to hear that Cyndi Lauper is due to play in Sydney tonight (April 1st) as part of her latest world tour.

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun singer arrived in Australia yesterday for her first show at the Sydney State Theatre and is due to play a second show this evening.

Speaking to Time Out Sydney, the 57-year-old chanteuse said that she aims to sing an uplifting set full of classic pop tunes and reworked blues numbers.

"I looked at what was going on in our country [the USA] and I felt like everybody's singing the blues, so I needed to make it uplifting," she said of her latest album Memphis Blues.
